A man has died after a single vehicle crash in Calgary’s northeast.

EMS spokesperson Adam Loria says paramedics were called to the parking lot of Marlborough Mall around 10:00 Saturday morning.

“The call came into us as a possible minor motor vehicle collision. Upon our arrival we were presented with a single vehicle that had collided with a tree. It was a very minor low speed collision,” explains Loria.

He says the crash was the result of a medical event suffered by the driver.

The vehicle left the road while travelling north on 36th Street hitting a tree in the mall’s parking lot.

The victim later died in hospital.

Traffic investigators shut down the northbound lanes of 36th Street at Memorial Drive, N.E. for about an hour to determine if it was the medical condition, or the crash, that led to the driver’s death.
