Calgary’s traffic light cameras, designed to catch motorists running red lights and speeding through green ones, are making a lot of dough for city cops.

About $3-million more than what was forecasted has been made off of tickets issued to drivers caught breaking the law.

Police say the extra cash is due to more cameras being installed.

Spokesman Kevin Brookwell tells The Calgary Sun there’s actually been a 17 per cent decrease in crashes at intersections since they started monitoring them.

Brookwell says it’s a lesson to be learned: if you don’t follow the rules, you’re going to be “whacked in the wallet.”
