One man is dead after a shooting late Friday morning in the northeast community of Martindale.

Another man has been seriously injured and taken to hospital in critical condition and the gunmen are still on the loose.

A home in the 100 block of Martinvalley Mews was surrounded by several police cars and officers with assault rifles were prowling the area, but most have now left the neighbourhood.

Police say early witness accounts report two dark-skinned men in masks spotted running from the scene, shortly after the shots rang out.

They confirm the man taken to hospital was in critical condition at the time of transport, but there’s no update on his current status.

Police add the house where the shots were fired has a known criminal history, including drug activity and they believe this is a drug-related shooting.

Homicide and forensic investigators remain on scene and it’s unknown how long they will hold it, before letting all neighbouring residents back home.

It’s not yet known if the victims are residents of the home, or how many shots were fired.
