Some of the wild rabbits in Canmore have been granted a reprieve from being put down.

A couple with a farm northwest of Calgary has agreed to take in 50 of the bunnies over-running the town.

A B.C.-based group took in over 200 rabbits last year when their numbers became too much.

The town expressed regret this year that they could not find animal rescue groups to take in the out-of-control population and started trapping and killing the animals.

A town spokesperson tells The Calgary Herald they’ll work with anyone who wants to take in the creatures, but there are so many that they will still have to euthanize a number of them.
