With the season of giving upon us, a new study shows Calgarians are leading the way.
The study conducted by CanadaHelps.org examines how generous Canadians have been over the last year and found Calgarians have donated the largest individual amount at just under $250 a piece.
Albertans have given a total of $7.8 million compared to Ontario which has donated $17.3 million to charities.
According to the study, donations to religious organizations continue to be the most popular, followed by health-related charities and environmental causes also saw an increase over last year.
The study also shows giving throughout the year has been fairly steady across Canada.
Donations have picked up during this “Giving Season,” the time between Thanksgiving and the end of the year.
Donations are currently about 34 per cent higher than last year.
