Anti-smoking advocates are hoping new legislation from the Alberta Tories will crackdown on youth tobacco use.
The plan, to be released Monday, is rumoured to include bans on shisha smoking in hookah lounges, restrictions on flavoured tobacco, greater enforcement around sales and more anti-tobacco education.
Alberta Liberal leader Raj Sherman’s push to ban smoking in vehicles with minors will also be a focus.
Some critics are disappointed a tax hike will likely be absent.
Les Hagen, director of Action on Smoking and Health tells The Calgary Herald without a tobacco tax, the fight against youth smoking will be much more difficult.
