The old adage that adversity builds character will be put to the test this weekend as the Calgary Stampeders play the B.C. Lions in the CFL West Division Final; the victor will be off to the Grey Cup.

Late Thursday it was revealed Stampeder quarterback Drew Tate is done for the year, after fracturing his right arm in the team’s last-minute victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the West Division semi-final at McMahon on Sunday.

Quarterback Kevin Glenn, who started for the team during most of the season, will get the ball.

The announcement capped a difficult week for the Stampeders, which included star receiver Nik Lewis sending an inappropriate tweet, making light of domestic violence.

Lewis was fined by the league; he eventually apologized and will also donate his $3,600 paycheque from Sunday’s game to a local women’s emergency shelter.

The team says it will match Lewis’ donation.

Rob Kerr with Sportsnet 960 the Fan says the Stamps have dealt with adversity all season long and despite all the distractions, the players are united and focused on the job at hand.

The Stampeders head into the game as six-and-a-half point underdogs; the Lions are the CFL’S defending champions.
