A police officer had to be cut out of his cruiser by firefighters using the jaws of life after it was T-boned on Macleod Trail at 5th Ave., S.E. just before 5:00 p.m. Friday afternoon.
The police vehicle had its sirens and lights on and was responding to a call when it went through the intersection and was hit by the SUV.
EMS spokesman Adam Loria said the officer and the other driver have been taken to hospital in stable, non-life threatening condition.
“The lone occupant of the police cruiser, a male, and also the lone occupant driver of the other vehicle were the two transported to hospital,” said Loria.
The closure snarled traffic trying to get out of the downtown core and anyone trying to get in or to the Saddledome for the Leonard Cohen concert.
