Travel Alberta is making a stop in Calgary Friday to talk about how well the province is doing to attract visitors.
The open house is part of a tour across the province to meet with stakeholders and brainstorm ideas.
Chief Executive Officer Bruce Okabe tells 660News Calgary’s tourism is booming, but there’s one thing it could use.
“Calgary doesn’t need a lot of help in being itself. What Calgary could use, is a little more publicity in markets like China and others. It’s a pretty crowded market out there. What Calgary could use, quite frankly is a direct flight from Beijing or Shanghai, and once people get here, Calgary sells itself.” Okabe says.
Okabe says the numbers in Calgary are fantastic.
Just last year visits to the Glenbow Museum were up 8 per cent, and the Calgary Stampede had a record 1.4 million guests.
Next week, Travel Alberta will continue their open house tour with stops in Lethbridge and Medicine Hat.
