A bleak fate for wild bunnies in Canmore; the town says it’s being forced to euthanize much of its feral rabbit population because there’s just nowhere to put the animals.

Last year, officials received outraged calls and e-mails when the town voted to euthanize the 2,000 rabbits invading the area; that led to a B.C. rescue group, E.A.R.S., stepping in and sending the furry creatures to sanctuaries in Calgary.

Canmore says no one has come forward to help this year.

Director of E.A.R.S., Susan Vickery, tells The Calgary Sun she’s devastated to learn the animals are being put down and she’s praying for more sanctuaries to take in the rabbits.
