The Calgary Board of Education is facing harsh criticism for its plan to build a $9-million national sports school.
Critics say the CBE should not be devoting money to the project when existing schools still need major upgrades.
Royal Oak parent Erin Stabbler tells The Calgary Herald the decision is ridiculous and she’s concerned about CBE’s lack of transparency.
The province is pitching-in $3-million to fund the new school, while the school board plans to fundraise for the other $6-million through its charity, Education Matters.
Elite athletes will pay $4,000 in tuition to attend.
