Hours into the first snow-route parking ban, many Calgarians are going to be rewarded with either a ticket or a tow.

The decision came Friday, but the city wanted to wait until after Remembrance Day ceremonies were completed before enacting the ban.

It now means vehicles parked on snow routes can be ticketed, or even towed.

The ban being is in place until Wednesday at 1 p.m. — unless it’s lifted earlier.

Snow routes are marked by blue signs with white snow flakes on them.

660News asked Calgarians along 9th Avenue southeast in Inglewood if they were prepared for the ban.

Miranda, who parks every Sunday for her daughter’s art class says she’s not aware of the rule, and depsite the city saying that more of the blue and white snowflake signs have been put up, she hasn’t noticed.

She jokes: “It’s a bit confusing I have to admit….Is there an “App” for it, do you know?”

And Inglewood store clerk Bryson says he’s also in the dark.

“This is the first time I’m hearing about it,” he says, adding that he’s seen the snowflake signs — but that’s about it.

“I’ve heard about the snow-route [parking ban], I just didn’t realize that today was one of those days.”

And Jackie, who was having coffee in Inglewood, says although she’s aware of the ban, she didn’t realize it was for a duration upwards of 72-hours. Nor did she know about the $75 fine if caught.

“I don’t care, ” she says. “I know my neighbours care because there are a couple of streets where people essentially park a lot and they’re going to be affected because those streets are snow routes.”

Darren, visiting from Ottawa, didn’t hear about our city’s snow-route ban — but he thinks it’s a good idea.

“It allows the city the time to get out, clear the streets and makes it safer for all the other drivers,” says Darren.
