A fairly rare task for a few Calgary firefighters early Saturday morning at a home in the city’s northwest.
A pregnant woman called emergency crews in the advanced stages of labour, and before EMS arrived, she needed the help from fire crews to help deliver a baby boy!
Battalion Chief Don Huska tells 660News, firefighters only deliver a baby about three to four times a year, so they were excited.
“I’ve spoken to them this morning and they were quite excited but I think due to the excitement and the advanced stage of labour she was in, they didn’t really have too much time to think about it and just relied on the training they’ve received,” says Huska.
The mother and newborn were doing well when they were transferred to hospital by EMS.
