Some Edmonton veterans are expressing disapproval after several students in the city were allowed to opt-out of Remembrance Day ceremonies.

Several public schools in the city say they allow students to refrain from attending the services on a case-by-case basis.

Edmonton public schools Spokeswoman Jane Sterling tells The Calgary Sun it’s parents who choose not to allow their child to participate, sometimes because of religious beliefs.

But some Edmontonians say regardless of religion, everyone should be commemorating the sacrifice of the country’s troops who fought for Canada’s freedom.
