Opposition critics are worried the provincial government has no plans to deal with a $14-billion deficit.

MLA’s confronted Alberta finance officials about the debt burden at a committee meeting Wednesday, but say they are unconvinced steps will be taken.

Wildrose complains the government has planned poorly, while the NDP blames the debt on the government’s refusal to hike corporate taxes.

Wildrose MLA Rob Anderson tells The Calgary Herald the $10-billion pension liability is most concerning.

He says they need to make sure they have a stable, sustainable pension system for retirees.
