A Calgary man giving up his cache of firearms made an emotional confession in a courtroom Thursday.

The man agreed to the seizure of his weapons and a five-year ban on firearms, after his 12-year-old son committed suicide with one of them.

Police have decided against pressing charges.

Spokesperson Kevin Brookwell tells The Calgary Sun they felt it was the best route, taking into account what the family has been through.

Brookwell says it was in the family and public’s best interest to instead pursue a ban.
