A man has been charged in relation to the death of a 20-year-old Calgary woman.

29-year-old Kristopher Guenther has been charged with second-degree murder and he remains in custody in hospital.

An autopsy has been completed on Lacey Jones-McKnight, however the cause of death is not being released, marking the city’s fourteenth murder of the year.

Around 9:20 Thursday night, a mutual friend of the couple reported the woman’s body was in a vehicle, travelling across the city.  Her body was found in a car in the area of Country Hills Blvd. and Coventry Blvd. around 10 p.m.

Jones-McKnight was found dead in a black Honda near the Canadian Pacific Railway tracks.

Twenty minutes after that, a woman called police saying she was assaulted in a Bedford Drive home in the northeast.

A third call then came in telling operators, a man was trying to hang himself from a bridge in the far northeast.

The mother of the woman now says the system failed her daughter.

Police say Guenther  is an ex-boyfriend of the victim and the couple are known to police for previous domestic dispute complaints.
