The Alberta government is defending an accusation that Edmonton Oilers owner and billionaire Daryl Katz signed a $430,000 cheque to the Tories’ re-election campaign.
The maximum donation anyone can make under Alberta law to a campaign is $30,000
Progressive Conservative Executive Director, Kelley Charlebois, remains tight-lipped about specific donations, but tells 660News they take all the steps necessary to make sure they’re following the rules.
“We have to, as a political party make sure that the receipts line up with the donations so that nobody has given any more than they’re allowed.” Charlebois explains.
Money from Katz and his family made up over 20 per cent of total donations to the party.
Premier Alison Redford tells The Calgary Sun the allegations are “completely unfounded.”
