A new report presented to the city by the chamber of commerce is predicting strong economic growth for Alberta and Calgary in the new year, but they’re warning us not to be too confident as the struggling economy around the world worsens.
Chief economist Ben Brunnen tells 660News while predictions look good for Calgary, the weakened global economy hasn’t been closer to a downturn since 2008.
“That means while we’re experiencing good times now, we need to be cautious, because we could slip into a recession as a result of some economic challenges across the globe.” Brunnen explains.
The hope is Calgary’s very strong unemployment numbers, residential housing construction, and commercial construction will help Calgary keep growing.
