Three years after purchasing the worn down building, the city still has no plans for the old Cecil Hotel.
Calgary bought the once crime-ridden hotel at 4th Ave. and 3rd St. S.E. for $10-million in 2009, with plans to tear it down and put in parking or condos; but it remains standing and vacant.
Residents complain the building is a bad first impression of the city and an eyesore.
The hotel was built in 1912, but a fire in the 1980′s damaged much of the building’s heritage value.
Calgary Downtown Association President, Maggie Schofield, tells The Calgary Herald she hopes existing plans to revitalize the East Village will see something done with the old shack.
