According to the editorial board at the Calgary Sun, a rookie alderman tops the class in the newspaper’s annual report card on City Council.

The Sun hands out only one A to a member of City Council, but three F’s in a list of grades which places Mayor Naheed Nenshi in the middle.

First-term alderman Shane Keating tops the list with an A- thanks to his persistent work on the issue of the much-needed, multi-billion dollar southeast leg of the LRT.

Mayor Nenshi has seen some slight improvement in his grade by the newspaper. He’s up to C+ — from a C — with the editorial board noting that for the first time in 30 years, Calgary Transit has a “long-term plan drafted in consultation with citizens through the RouteAhead program that he’s initiated.” The Sun adds: (Nenshi is) “a good ambassador outside Calgary, but Calgarians are still waiting for that earth-shattering change the municipality deserves for the hype his election generated.”

Aldermen Richard Pootmans, Brian Pincott and Druh Farrell fared the worst on the report cards.  They were given grades of F.
