Although it may be hard to start thinking about, winter driving is just around the corner.

The Alberta Motor Association has released a checklist to make sure you’re prepared to drive this season.

Readying your car with a block heater, winter tires, and an emergency roadkit including a shovel, are all things AMA recommends you do sooner rather than later.

AMA spokesperson Randy Loyk says it’s a smart idea to keep your car fuelled during the winter months in case you get stuck in traffic because of weather conditions.

“Also you get some moisture build-up, especially if you are parking the garage and taking it outside back and forth, you’ll get some moisture build-up.  So keep your tank at least half filled.” Loyk says.

He adds the biggest mistake motorists can make is not adjusting their driving habits.

“That first dump of snow that we always get, people tend to not slow down. They’re still used to their summer driving patterns, so slow down and start driving for the conditions.”

Loyk also recommends testing your car battery and tire pressure to make sure everything is safe and ready to go.
