Two mothers who lost children in crashes which involved 15-seater vans are calling on the federal government to outlaw them country-wide.
According to thestar.com, the women are enraged that Transport Canada still allows the vehicles on the road, and met with the federal Transport Minister to discuss their worries about student transportation.
One of the mothers – Isabelle Hains – lost her son Daniel, 17, when the 15-seater he was riding in went off the road in New Brunswick in 2008. He was one of seven young basketball players killed, in an accident which also caused the death of the coach’s wife.
As a result, New Brunswick, Quebec and Nova Scotia have outlawed these vans, but the rest of Canada’s provinces have yet to follow suit.
