The Calgary Board of Education says the report card data of more than 2,000 students was stolen from a car.

CBE says the theft happened October 5th when an employee laptop was snatched.

They’ve now compiled a list of those affected and are beginning to call the parents of the students involved.

CBE spokesman Richard Peter says it’s an absolutely regrettable situation.

The information stolen includes names, photos and student numbers and in some cases the reports include addresses and phone numbers.

The Calgary Herald reports officials are hoping thieves will not be able to hack the password-protected computer.
