Entrepreneurs and mom and pop shops are in the spotlight this week in the city.

The idea behind Small Business Week is to acknowledge the contributions of smaller companies in our local economy.

In 2011, Calgary had the highest number of small businesses per capita of all the major cities in Canada.

A number of events are planned including a kickoff celebration Monday at Spolumbo’s Fine Foods and Deli, and an awards ceremony on Thursday recognizing emerging leaders in Calgary.
