Residents in Calgary and Edmonton are still paying among the highest rates for electricity in Canada.

The annual Hydro Quebec power pricing survey says the cost for power in the province has climbed two to three cents since April.

The good news is Calgary no longer has the highest prices in the nation, Halifax and Charlottetown have now taken first and second place.

According to The Calgary Herald, Alberta’s fully deregulated market may have something to do with the big numbers for residential consumers.

Consultant Sheldon Fulton says if private investor plants shut down unexpectedly, the price which is set hourly can skyrocket.
