The neighbour of a woman who killed herself and her young son says she never noticed any signs of depression in the woman.
But retired nurse Carol Hawley Brister said Yu Mei Lai did approach her about a month ago and said she wasn’t well and couldn’t sleep.
Hawley Brister tells the Calgary Herald that she recommended sleep medication and told her if the insomnia persisted, she should see a doctor.
She added weeks later, Lai seemed better and said she was sleeping again.
Hawley Brister said a wall separated their two homes in Varsity, and she never heard any yelling from Lai or her husband.
She was devastated to hear about the murder-suicide on Friday, and says little Kevin was a happy, outgoing child who loved to ride his bike.
