An event to help protect the critically endangered Mountain Gorilla will be held in Calgary on Sunday.

There are only about 800 of the gorillas left.  The species is found only in the mountain forests of Rwanda, Uganda and the Congo.

Trish Exton-Parder with the Calgary Zoo tells 660News the annual Gorilla Run raises funds for both awareness and conservation.

She says the funds will go to help protect the wild mountain gorillas and for one of the zoo’s own programs, the reintroduction of the black-footed ferrets in Western Canada.

The zoo is trying to help create awareness and has been working with the Dian Fossey fund in the U-S to increase global conservation.

The run goes Sunday morning at 8 o’clock at the Calgary Zoo.
