A woman convicted of severely beating her bulldog has been issued a fine and a decade-long ban.

May Polegato was charged on May 17th, after striking her dog “Jinx” with a blunt object.

She plead guilty to the offence Tuesday.

She now faces $5,000 in fines and is banned from owning or caring for an animal for 10 years.

A spokesperson for the Calgary Humane Society says the beating could have resulted in jail-time.

But Brad Nichols tells 660News its still one of the highest fines officers have ever seen, adding Jinx has recovered and is living a happy life with a caring owner.
