Winsport is trying to put to an end a rumour that’s circulating ahead of the upcoming ski season.
The organization that operates the ski hill at Canada Olympic Park is using Canadian skier Jan Hudec to call former pass holders, urging them to buy a season’s pass.
The renewal message includes a promise the facility is getting a new lift and a longer vertical run. But there is a rumour the proposed expansion is not going to happen.
“All the vertical is in place now,” Winsport spokesperson Dale Oviatt tells 660News, putting the rumour to rest. “It’s just a matter of putting all the pieces to the chair lift in place. But it will be up and running for the season. We’re shooting for a December 1st start date and we’ll able to get 2,400 skiers or snowboarders up the hill quicker with the new high-speed chair lift.”
The new lift comes with other benefits.
“It gives us enough vertical to host a Women’s World Cup Slalom event,” adds Oviatt. “But it also allows more terrain for the recreational skier as well. So, you know, I think they’ll notice a great difference in terms of recreational skiing as well.”
Weather permitting, the new ski season at C.O.P. will begin by mid-November. The new chair lift should be operational by early December.
The rumour that isn’t true!
