The Investors Group Thanksgiving Memory Walk and Run is back for another year at Eau Claire Market beginning at 10 Sunday morning.
The annual event is a chance for Calgarians to support family members or friends suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
The 5 km run/walk and 10 km run is also an opportunity for the Alzheimer Society to raise money for people suffering from dementia and their caregivers.
Christina Hanrahan is lacing up her runners for a 7th straight year.
She got involved because her mother and her grandmother suffered from dementia.
“And also to find support for families as well is really important because as a side member of going through it with my mom and also my grandmother had the same thing. I think that’s also important to bring that to the forefront and that in turn will bring people out to talk about it,” Hanrahan says.
The voice of the Calgary Flames Peter Maher is the honorary chair person for the event
A wall size photo montage entitled “Unforgettable” will be on display Sunday at the run and walk.
Pictures will include people with dementia both living and deceased.
