Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi is sharing what he’s thankful for this long weekend.
He tells 660News his family doesn’t do the traditional turkey dinner, but still uses the time to get together.
“This will be our first Thanksgiving without my Dad who passed away earlier this year,” says the mayor, “but we’re still using the opportunity to get together and be thankful for this great country, great province, and great city that has taken us in.”
Nenshi says he’s very thankful for the giving community he lives in stating Calgarians make his job easy because they care so much about the city and its future.
He says he learned that lesson while visiting the London Olympics this summer.
“There were 70,000 volunteers at the Olympics,” says Nenshi. “But 40-per cent of them had never volunteered before helping in London. I thought to myself, it would be impossible to find a group of any size in Calgary where 40-per cent hadn’t volunteered before. It’s part of our nature, of who we are. And I think that’s something we should be incredibly thankful for.”
