It might be the Thanksgiving holiday but a number of city services continue to operate this weekend.

Calgary Transit will be running at a Sunday level of service both Sunday and Monday. But if you’re planning to head downtown, this weekend, be aware there is no C-Train service along the 7th Avenue corridor. Calgary Transit is doing maintenance as well as work as part of the West LRT project. Service is shutdown between the City Hall platform and the Sunnyside station.  Transit riders will have to take shuttle busses, and there will be regular bus service along 7th Avenue as well.  C-Train riders will face the same situation next weekend as well.

It is status quo for garbage and recycling pick-up.  If you usually have your trash picked up on Monday, nothing will change on the stat holiday.

Landfills are also open this weekend.

As for attractions, Fort Calgary, the Calgary Zoo, Telus Spark and Heritage Park are all open.  At Heritage Park, they are offering free midway rides and a pancake breakfast for their final weekend of 2012.

Seven city arenas will be offering free public skating and five Calgary pools will counter with free public swimming.

For nature lovers, Bowness Park will be open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., and also open are the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary and the Devonian Gardens.

And for those wanting to get a head start on Halloween, Screamfest takes place Sunday at the Stampede Grandstand.

For a cultural, as well as gastronomical adventure, there are brats and beer at Oktoberfest at the Austrian club.

Heritage Park Historical Village will be offering free midway rides and flapjacks for its final weekend of 2012.
