Kids, adults and families alike took to the Calgary Corn Maze in the deep-south of the city to sample a little bit of everything from pig races and petting zoos to pumpkin picking and cow trains.

But the even bigger sampling on their minds this weekend seems to be what’s on the table for Thanksgiving dinner.

Hungry adults and tiny tots with big appetites are anticipating some hearty feasting with a vengeance.

And while turkey might be top of mind for many, it turns out everybody has their favourites and not-so-favourites.

“I don’t like dressing,” says Emily Tilley who was at the Corn Maze with her family.

And for little Carter, forget the dressing–he’s having pasta!

Chelsea Erickson and her family are doing their turkey dinner on Monday night. They’ve made it a tradition to visit the corn maze each year.

“We dont’t have any extended family in Calgary so we needed something fun to do and this fit the bill. It’s lots of fun,” says Chelsea, adding she’s impressed with how the attraction has gone from “bare bones” in its first year to a destination chock full of choices of things to see and do.

For Calgarian Aarti Raman, the tradition of Thanksgiving long weekend is about celebrating the gathering of family.

“It means taking the time out of our typically busy lives to sit around a dinner table. It’s not something we do enough. Thanksgiving is a good excuse,” says Raman.

When it comes to more food and fixings, moms Luba Uefio and Chelsea Erickson each have their own recipes on the menu.

Luba’s family will be enjoying turkey with a marinade of oranges and apples while Chelsea says the tip for the perfect turkey is to add slices of garlic to the bird.

And for dessert you won’t be seeing the usual pumpkin pies in the Erickson spread–it’s going to be rootbbeer floats all around!
