It’s an illness that affects one in six workers in every company.

The Calgary Counselling Centre is marking National Depression Screening Day, by getting workplaces, and their employees talking about depression.

CEO of the Chamber of Commerce Adam Legge says life can be stressful and not everyone can take the time to relax.

” You look at how much the demands are on workers to be productive, to crank out more work…that’s huge. Family stressors never go away. Economic challenges, you know even the fear of job loss or the economic woes going on in the economy.”

Legge explains companies need to have systems in place to start a dialogue about the illness, and a policy in place to help people get treatment.

He says depression is not something people can turn on and off.
