Some of the 2,200 workers at the shuttered meat processing plant in Brooks, Alberta are getting calls to report back to their job.
The Globe and Mail reports the meat processing staff, which cut up carcasses that have already been slaughtered, cleaned, and cooled, are back on the job Thursday morning.
Still no word when the kill floor at XL Foods will re-open.
Over the past several days maintenance workers have been kept busy cleaning the facility, removing any and all traces of possible e-coli contamination.
A Spokesman for the National Farmers Union says people upset about the recall should call their Member of Parliament and sound off.
Glen Tait tells 660News federal government policy is the reason behind the lack of competition in the meat processing business.
Tait says because operations are concentrated in one part of the country, any kind of disruption would send the Canadian food supply system for a loop.
He says the shutdown has already driven down the cost of cattle by as much as 30 per cent, adding the longer the plant is shutdown the greater the losses will grow.
