Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz says the XL Foods plant in Brooks shut down because of a recall scandal, is not about to re-open.

In a news conference Thursday, the second in two days, Ritz wanted to address “misinformation” about the E. coli scare.

He says the XL Plant in Brooks still has their license suspended, and it won’t be restored until the Canadian Food Inspection Agency gives the okay that the plant is safe.

President of the agency George Da Pont says they won’t sign off until they are satisfied all of the shortcuts that were being made won’t happen again.

He says inspectors continue to test every carcass inside the plant.

Meanwhile, XL Foods is outlining what changes they are making to ensure food safety.

The company will be the first in Canada to use remote video auditing to improve oversight.

High pressure hot water washing of beef and more quality control personnel on each shift is also being implemented.

When the plant re-opens, officials at the plant say meat will be held under quarantine until all E. coli tests are complete.

There are at least four E. coli poisoning cases that have been confirmed to be linked back to tainted meat.

An estimated 1.5 million pounds of meat have been recalled that were traced back to the Brooks plant.

Officials say the public can expect even more recalls.
