With a smile on their faces, residents of Cochrane are uttering a variety of sayings this weekend, including “take no crap,” “join the movement,” and “the #%&^* hits the fan.”
Dozens of entries will be taking part Saturday morning, starting at 10am, in the town’s 12th annual Outhouse Races which are similar to the classic soap box derby.
“It’s very much like that except that all the winnings go to the Cochrane Foodbank,” outhouse organizer Karrie Peace tells 660News. “And they build Christmas hampers with them.”
“We have a minimum height requirement” (for the entries), says Peace, addressing the rules for the races. “We don’t want anyone building a tiny outhouse and getting an advantage. It should be unused, for sure,” she laughs, adding, “we require each team to have four runners and one rider inside.”
Besides rules, there are also prizes.
“This year, because a lot of people go to a lot of effort to dress up and do something really funny, we have a $500 cash prize for the funniest team,” says Peace. “That’s decided by the ladies that run the foodbank. And we also have a $500 cash prize for the fastest team.”
The races on Main Street in Cochrane start at 10, Saturday morning and go till noon. But the fun doesn’t end there. Peace notes there’s an “after potty” for the participants!
