The Calgary Fire Department is out with a word of caution following a large grass fire early Saturday morning which led to the evacuation of condo building in Bridgeland.
The fire consumed about four acres of green space just north of Memorial Drive near Centre Street.
“Not only that call, we’ve had several other calls in the past number of days,” says Battalion Chief Ernie Molineaux. “Basically, due to the dry conditions, the leave fallings, and the lack of moisture, and with the winds, it’s a big concern for us.”
Fire crews also put-out a couple small grass fires before noon Saturday.
Molineaux says a majority of these types of fires tend to be started by smokers’ debris.
He’s asking people to be very careful with their cigarettes and dispose of them properly and not toss them out the window of their vehicles.
