Brooks’ mayor and the Chamber of Commerce anticipate the XL Foods plant temporarily shut down by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency will re-open sooner rather than later.
Martin Shields says no one is overly concerned because the community does not rely on the plant as the main source of income.
“We have a diverse economy, it’s agriculture, largest irrigation district in the province, oil and gas, so we have other industries in our region,” said Shields.
The chamber’s Tracy Acorn also feels the closure won’t last long or have any long term affects.
“Certainly there could be some strain financially for a number of families in the community but we are confident that XL is handling this in a responsible and timely manner,” said Acorn.
