While recent recalls may have scared some food consumers in Alberta, there are ways you can keep yourself safe and still enjoy beef.

Heather Travis from Canada Beef Incorporated says any beef bought in the store today is safe, but you should still make sure your meat is properly refrigerated and frozen, and ensure your beef is fully cooked.

Travis tells 660News it’s not about the colour of the meat, but the temperature.

“Your burger is done at 71. That stands for your meatballs, your meatloaf, or if you’re cooking up ground beef for tacos,” She explains. “Use a digital instant read thermometer to know for sure.”

Travis recommends using one cutting board for raw products and a different one for other items to make sure nothing bad comes in contact with what you are about to eat.

Also make sure you wash all surfaces in your kitchen, including re-usable grocery bags you’ve brought food home in to make certain what ever you bring home next from the supermarket is safe to eat.
