At least five Calgary area home owners have filed complaints with provincial consumer protection officials alleging a local company has taken tens of thousands of dollars in upfront payments but hasn’t done the work.
The complaints have been filed against Kreate Cabinets and operator Kieron Warren.
According to the Calgary Herald, Service Alberta estimates the five complaints total between $400,000 and $500,000.
Warren, who’s facing sentencing next week in provincial court for breach of the Fair Trading Act while operating under the name of Hillcrest Renovations, declined comment to the Herald, referring the issue to his legal team.
Warren pleaded guilty to five charges in the Fair Trading Act case. Charges include three counts of operating as a pre-paid contractor without a license, and two counts of failing to provide a refund to a customer cancelling a contract.
