Calls for naming more city landmarks in honour of the late Peter Lougheed are on hold for now, according to Calgary’s mayor.

Requests to name some parks, streets or buildings after Lougheed emerged over the past week from some aldermen, including Ward Eight’s John Mar.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi tells 660News, in good time that may happen, but now is not the right time.

He says, “We’ll continue to have these discussions; today, though, I think the important thing is for all of us to remember, with gratitude, all that Premier Lougheed has done for us and to remember that his real legacy, in the words of Christopher Wren, “if you want to see it, look around you.”

Lougheed was Alberta’s tenth premier and is considered one of the key figures in establishing the province’s oil and gas industries.
