A new central library in Calgary is long overdue.
The City says planning is underway and it wants to hear from citizens about what services and resources they want in new libraries in all parts of the city.
It hosted an engagement session Saturday at Symons Valley United Church in the northwest and more meetings will be held in other parts of the city through the end of October.
Rosemary Griebel with the Calgary Public Library says people are going to libraries for alot more than just books these days.
“People are using us to access technology or learn about new technology; to sift through all the information that we now have access to and finding really accurate information. They’re coming to learn about things happening in the city and listen to great speakers,” says Griebel.
The existing Central Library opened 50 years ago and was built to support 400,000 people.
