The Alberta Urban Municipalities Association will be getting a request for a rather unusual endorsement from the village of Delburne at its meeting next week.
The little municipality of 830 wants to make it legal to drive golf carts on its streets.
According to the Mayor of Delburne, Ray Reckseidler, it’s something that started happening in his home town when a man in his 50′s suffered a stroke. As a result, his driver’s license was suspended so he started — pardon the pun — putt-putting around the village in a golf cart. Nothing was said for years about the man’s mode of transportation until another resident started doing the same thing. That’s when the Mounties started cracking down.
The stroke victim has since started using a scooter, but the Mayor tells the Calgary Herald he’s not as happy with his new vehicle or safe.
Eventually the village hopes to take the issue to Alberta Transportation.
