Some Calgary parents have again raised concerns about the start time the enforcement of the 30 Kilometre speed limit in school and playground zones.

Actually Allison Warga tells 660News, there isn’t even a school zone outside Midnapore Elementary.

Warga says her children have to cross a very busy Midlake Boulevard, well before the reduced speed limit in the extended playground zone kicks in.

The 30 Kilometre speed limit in school zones runs from 7:30 a.m. until 5 p.m, playground zones operate from 8:30 a.m. until one hour after sunset.

Ward 14 Alderman Peter Demong says he is aware of the problem and he would like to see city, provincial and school board officials sit down and hammer out a solution.

Traffic constable Jim Lebedeff tells 660News he would love to see some kind of keep it simple stupid solution, which would standardize the rules of the road in and around classrooms.

Alberta’s Transportation Minister Ric McIver says if somebody has a solution he would love to hear it, adding it’s hard to come to some sort of agreement that will make everyone happy.

Despite the discrepancy, Calgary police say they have issued very few speeding tickets in school and playgrounds.
