A Calgary alderman says the revenue from 911 calls made on cell phones should be passed on to help pay for emergency communication centres.
Alderman John Mar says fees collected from landlines to access 911 go to municipalities, and levies from cell phone calls should do the same.
Mar argues landline numbers are declining, which means the revenue is decreasing, while more and more are using mobile phones.
Mar tells The Calgary Sun he thinks much of the public may already assume money being collected is sent to municipalities for emergency services.
Alberta is currently drafting a 911 act that may address the issue.
