Municipalities are known to stage fall fairs, but one coming up Saturday at the Mewata Armoury in downtown Calgary differs from the standard community fair.  This one is being put on by the Calgary Police Service.

“There’s going to be bouncy castles for the kids and face-painting, balloons,” Constable Nadia Patterson tells 660News, adding the event is designed for both young and old.  “There’s going to be fire trucks, ambulances, police cars, our mounted unit, our K-9 unit, all going to be outside for people to interact with.”

If you want to be a cop, they’ve got that covered too.

“They’re setting up the A-prep which is the physical test that you have to take to become a police officer,” adds Patterson. “That will be set up there if anybody wants to come and try that out.  Just bring gym clothes.”

And the event, which runs from 10am until 2pm Saturday, is free.

“All we’re asking that if you can bring a non-perishable food item in support of the veteran’s food bank, that would be great,” notes Patterson.

All units of the police service, from arson to traffic, will be on hand for the event as the police and their community partners in the fire department and EMS team up to strengthen community ties.

The food donations will go to the Veteran’s Food Bank.

Parking at the Mewata Armoury on Saturday is also free.
