Calgary police are now calling the death of a man in a boarding house fire in Mission last week a homicide.

Daniel Mcwha, 57, was found unconscious in the home and died after being rushed to hospital. The blaze broke out on 25th Avenue southwest last Wednesday at 9:30 p.m.

Investigators say he died as a result of the fire which was deliberately set.

The fire department says the blaze was set from inside the building and resulted in three people having to be rescued from the roof after they climbed out a window.

This is Calgary’s 11th homicide of 2012.

Police are still asking witnesses to come forward if they know anything about the fire.
