It may just look like an ordinary bench but to those at police headquarters, it says so much more.
Monday, members of MADD Canada revealed the bench as a memorial, ensuring police officers and other victims killed at the hands of a drunk drivers will always be remembered.
The message written across the granite is a simple one but also powerful.
Engraved across the front is ‘Remember Victims of Impaired Driving’ followed by ‘Forget Me Not,’ written underneath.
Chief Rick Hanson says it’s sad that some choose to ignore the warnings about impaired driving.
“Regular reminders to people that it’s still taking lives, impaired driving is still taking lives, and we’ve got to do more,” says Hanson.
Hanson says it continues to be one of the biggest criminal causes of loss of life.
MADD Canada hopes the bench will serve as a reminder and that at least one more person will get the message.
